Ellen Meyers is a junior newspaper and online journalism major and a finance minor at Syracuse University. She is the president of Syracuse SPJ for the 2015-2016 school year. Ellen has written and edited for The Christian Science Monitor, Central New York Business Journal, The Daily Orange, Baked magazine and The NewsHouse. Siyu Liu is a graduate student who majors in Computational Journalism, she’s the Syracuse SPJ Chapter Vice President. After graduated from Washington State University with a B.A. Degree in Media Production, she worked as a Producer Assistant at a television station in her hometown, Xi’an. Siyu’s career goal is to become a news director, as well as a bridge between American and Chinese cultures. Her goal in SPJ is to bring diversities to the community and beyond. Sarah Wolverton is a dual major in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and the Martin J. Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University. Her majors are Newspaper and Online Journalism and Marketing Management. She is the secretary for the Syracuse chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. Sarah’s first internship at the Jackson Hole News and Guide in her hometown of Jackson, Wyo. solidified her love for journalism. She plans to use her majors to begin reporting for a major publication and eventually working her way up the chain to an editor or management position.
Alex Ambrose is a sophomore public relations major with a minor in management studies and a sequence in fashion communications. She is SPJ’s Social Media Manager for the 2015-2016 school year. On campus, she serves as a Newhouse Peer Adviser and as a Newhouse Ambassador. She is also on PRSSA’s Special Events Committee and is a member of Orange Experience, Syracuse University’s synchronized figure skating team. Alex strongly believes in journalistic ethics and is excited to learn more through SPJ.
Roy Gutterman is an associate professor at the Newhouse School, specializing in First Amendment and Communications Law, and one of Syracuse SPJ’s advisers. He’s also the director of Newhouse’s Tully Center for Free Speech. Suzanne Lysak is an assistant professor at the Newhouse School, specializing in Broadcast News Production and Management, and one of Syracuse SPJ’s advisers. She’s received two Los Angeles Emmy Awards for her work in production and breaking news at KCBS-TV in Los Angeles, and received a national award from American Women in Radio and Television for her series “Private Battles: Women in the Military.
